Oh dear god, the Duggars are at it again.
If we manage to run out of J names, maybe they will stop breeding as if the human race were in danger of extinction from underpopulation. I'm not sure what is so bothersome to me about the Quiverfull movement; partly its an exception I take to their stated theology. They say that the movement is based on their Christian religion, except the verse they take their name from is Psalm 127, which is clearly OT. I'm going to have to do some studying, but I'm pretty sure that nowhere in the NT is Jesus credited with commanding his followers to outbreed all other existing religions. Nowhere in the "go ye forth unto all the nations" command is there a single snippet of a word about "and have more babies than everyone else!" Just saying.
Far be it from me to tell other people how many babies they should or shouldn't have; I am a firm adherent of letting people dictate their own family planning. I don't want to be judgmental (but lets be honest, we all are, at some level). But it seems to me that somewhere in the Duggar family's fame and fortune there is also an element of something mentally unhealthy. When I think about what kind of mindset one would have to have to think that this is healthy or normal, something in the center of me gives an awful sort of twitch. Because it isn't in any way shape or form "normal", not even for people whose lives veer sharply left of normality. Isn't it after all, simply a one-at-a-time version of Nadya Suleman's eight-preemie reach for fame of the most bizarre kind? <<Shudder>>
